Illawarra Cycle Club juniors were prominent at cycle racing in Bathurst over the weekend 10 – 11 April 2010.
The race events on Saturday included the NSW Hill Climb Championships and the Bathurst Criterium Races.
Racing Kangaroo, Bradley Heffernan attacked the 2.4 km ascent of Mt Panorama and took the Bronze medal in the JM15 NSW Hill Climb Championship. The medal was Heffernan’s third State Championship medal for 2010.
Chloe Heffernan (JW13) was the best placed Illawarra Junior in the Criterium race, finishing in 3rd place with Bradley Heffernan (JM15) finishing in 6th place.
Racing on Sunday was the 70 km Blayney to Bathurst Road Race. The race started in cool and damp conditions. As the race progressed, the weather cleared which made for quite reasonable race conditions.
Holly Heffernan (JW17) was the best placed of the Illawarra Juniors, finishing the race in 3rd place. In the JM15 division, Bradley Heffernan finished in 4th place with an impressive average speed of 38.5 km/hr, with Matthew Pignatelli finishing in 9th.
The Illawarra Cycle Club Juniors next outing will be the Sydney Junior Grand Prix in Sydney on 18 April.
